Advertising on the Boston Blogs Ad Network

The Boston Blogs Ad Network is hard-core Boston: More than two dozen Web sites written for Bostonians by Bostonians. Our sites provide daily news and insights visitors know they won't get elsewhere. And advertisers know their messages will reach Bostonians, not out-of-towners brought in by search engines. If you have a Boston-based service or product, there's no better medium to reach people who live and buy locally.

The network serves up 750,000 page views a month to 100,000 unique visitors. Our sites cover everything from breaking news and political analysis to sports and entertainment, all with a Boston focus. See a complete list of our sites and take a look at Quantcast demographics for Universal Hub, the largest site in the network.

All about the Boston Blogs Network

The Boston Blogs Network is a collaborative effort of a group of Boston-area blogs to promote each other and to sell advertising to local businesses tired of seeing their ad dollars wasted on clicks from people hundreds or thousands of miles away (Click for more info on advertising). In addition to summaries of posts here, members have their headlines appear in a box on Universal Hub.

How do you join the network? If you're based in the Boston area, write a lot (not necessarily exclusively) about life around here and have been posting for more than a couple months, chances are you qualify. Contact us to join or for more info.

Bostonblogs.com is our home site, where we post summaries of posts from members of the Boston Blogs Network and maintain a directory of the more than 1,000 blogs in the Boston area.

The art of blogging

On Onepotmeal, Steve observes:

The funniest thing about blogging is that each successive wave of new bloggers writes about making the exact same discoveries and observations regarding the medium, assuming themselves to be the first.

I'm amazed no one noticed that before me.

Do some reporters need manners lessons?

Steve Garfield reports on a Globe reporter covering a videoblogger meeting he was at. Among other things, she just started asking him questions without identifying herself first. Best part, though, was what happened when he tried to take a picture of her taking a picture of them.

Thoughts on Boston sports media

Over at Boston Sports Media Watch, Bruce Allen summarizes what he's learned about the local sports media in the four year's he's been following them. Among his observations: Local sports radio panders to idiots and Bob Ryan is a glorious exception to the rule that local sports writers are petty and thin skinned - especially his colleague, the Curly-Haired Boyfriend:

... [Shaughnessy] emailed me, demanding that I call him, so, not knowing any better at the time, I called. His first words to me were "Did I sleep with your wife or something?" the conversation went downhill from there, and I believe it ended up with him insulting me and hanging up the phone. Since then, I vowed never to talk on the phone with the guy again. He's tried. He's demanded that I call him, he's mocked me, telling me that I'm afraid to speak with him. Not true. I simply know that it would be an unproductive conversation where he would shout me down, insult me, and hang up. ...

Deval Patrick Watch

Hey, the Democrats can do it to Kerry Healey, so why shouldn't a conservative set up Deval Patrick Watch to fisk every last thing Patrick does and says?

Christygate: Lefty bloggers rise to righty bloggers' defense

The Margolis brothers at Hub Politics are getting support from unusual quarters in its fight with the Mihos campaign, which tried to shut the blog down over its comments about a Web site that may or may not have been owned by the Christy's Market company.

Mass. Marrier, about as far to the left as Hub Politics is to the right, comes to the site's defense:

Mihos campaign tries to shut blog down

A couple of days ago, Hub Politics noticed that www.christymihos.net, which at the time was registered to Christy's of Cape Cod, was mirroring Christy Mihos's campaign site. Violation of state campaign finance laws, which require notification of "in kind" contributions, Hub Politics, a pro-Kerry Healey site, said.

Libel, the Mihos campaign responds. According to Hub Politics, the campaign has asked the blog's Web host to do something about this egregious violation of the host's acceptable use policies. The Web host responded by asking Hub Politics to delete the post in question.

Note: The domain no longer mirrors the campaign site; the Google cache from April 23 shows only a link to the campaign site. And the whois record has been modified to delete any reference to Christy's Market.

Patrick campaign turns to bloggers for testimonial policy

A few weeks back, the Deval Patrick Web site posted a "testimonial" video that turned out to be from his campaign co-chairwoman (which became news after the Hub Politics guys sussed her out).

Now the Patrick campaign has asked the readers of Blue Mass. Group for help in writing a "transparency" policy for future testimonials.

On the one hand, most cool - it's smart to reach out to the online crowd and get their advice on online stuff. On the other hand, um, guys, is this really that hard to figure out? If somebody's your campaign co-chairwoman, do you need an official policy to decide that not identifying her will create certain issues?

Hub Politics is shocked, shocked, that it wasn't asked for its opinion, but opens up its floor for suggestions anyway.
